Mr. Barkauskas was called to the bar in 1992 and practices family law exclusively. His past corporate law experience and degree in psychology are valuable tools in his practice. Mr. Barkauskas is also a qualified and very experienced mediator in all areas of family law and is a strong proponent of the use of mediation and other alternative dispute mechanisms to minimize the uncertainty, delays, and costs associated with litigation. He is a member of the Alberta Family Mediation Society. He is a registered Collaborative Law Lawyer as well. He has extensive Court experience in all levels of Canadian Courts in several Provinces, and in other jurisdictions such as the United States, Europe, Asia and South America.
Mr. Barkauskas is a member of the Executive (the governing Counsel) of the Canadian Bar Association Family law section (Alberta Branch), is on the governing Counsel of the Canadian Bar Association, Alberta Branch, and is a member of the University of Calgary Judicial Review Board. He has been an appointed Dispute Resolution Officer for the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta for several years. He also is an appointed member of the committee advising the Alberta Government for the rewriting of the family Alberta Rules of Court. He teaches Family Law to new lawyers as part of the Bar Admission Course and is the President of the Board of Directors of “Peer Support Services for Abused Women”.
Mr. Barkauskas’ primary focus is to resolve his client's family law difficulties in the most efficient, cost-effective way and in the fairest manner possible.
